More than Just Halloween Costumes
People around the world celebrate Halloween. Almost everyone looks forward to October 31st because of the children’s trick or treat, spooky ghost
haunting and the fun Halloween parties that follows.
These celebrations are made more enjoyable with colorful costumes that children and adults wear.
Before, Halloween costumes are worn to protect one’s self from roaming evil spirits. Ancestors believe that they can disguise themselves by
putting on masks or paint so that the spirits wouldn’t bother them.
As years passed, people included clothes as part of the disguise. Now, most of us wear costumes for fun and not as a disguise anymore. These
costumes serves as entrance passes to some parties and some even holds contests for costume designs.
Others still believe in the element of disguise but not to ward off spirits but as a way to present themselves as another person or character
even if it’s just for a night.
Children love to dress up for this occasion too. Most of the girls prefer a princess outfit while boys go for the very popular superhero
costumes. Older children go for more scary costumes like witches and zombies to frighten younger children and even adults too.
Adults often disguise themselves as famous TV and movie characters. Others go for well-loved ones like pirate, historical and comical
costumes. All of these clothes go well with appropriate make-up or face paint, wigs, hats and shoes.
Props like broomstick, toy swords and dagger gives a good finishing touch to the attire.
Halloween costumes whether bought or made are already part of the celebration. It puts everyone in a festive mood and gives a person to play a
different character.
Though it is good for celebration, it is also important to be mindful of what other people might feel or think about the character or costume
you will be wearing. And don’t forget laws and regulations too.
